Today was session 2 of the DF intensive. We were looking at workflow, and using mail, hangouts, calendar, keep on google. As well as how to record a hangout, shortcuts on many of the google suite, and organise/save tabs together using Toby Mini or OneTab.
All of these tools are designed to help us implement effective practice around our Learn, Create, Share, values as Manaiakalani schools. We looked at RATE, centered around the Learn/Ako value. RATE stands for Recognise, Amplify and Turbocharge for Effective Practice. This concept is centered around using digital tools to accelerate learning, and incorporate existing resources and new digital tools and platforms to do so. I viewed today's tools and skills, as ways to help me better plan for this view of effective practice.
I am super excited for the potential uses of Google Keep! There are so many tools on there that could be used, especially things like image to text :) It is incredible how you can take a photo, and the text from the image can be extracted.
Using Keep to save things for later from email, calendar, docs, slides, the web etc.. will be so helpful. I like that I can keep all of my to do's and unfinished items in one space.
These will be helpful in both work and personal life.
Toby Mini is also an add-on that I think will be very helpful for my planning and resources for my classes. I often save sets of hyperlinks as documents and then forget about them and re-find them the next time I teach the topic, so I can see how saving collections of sites together in one place will be far more efficient for my preparations.

The shortcuts on mail and calendars were very helpful, as was having a chance to edit the settings to start getting the most out of the apps.
Today has also been really helpful for side-learnings such has some of the many uses of Hapara, and how to embed slides, docs, videos and so on into a blog. These are going to help hugely in my delivery and management of classes.
Exploring Google Hangouts today was a great way to build confidence in a tool that may be especially useful if we end up with extended times off school in response to everything going on. It was great to see how it could be used to deliver content "live" to students from separate spaces (like isolation). Where they can see all slides etc by being shared to their screen and hearing someone talk over them. I can see it as similar to screencastify but in real time. It will be even greater when the record function is rolled out to everyone! I plan to go over this with my classes (especially seniors), so they are aware of how to be a part of a hangout if we need it.
Today's tools have been things I can see myself using heaps, can't wait to get started!

Thank you for your enthusiasm today. Google keep is a great place to keep all your ideas and thoughts (and more) with out little pieces of paper getting lost, ripped up or at the bottom of beyond (our bags).
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanya! Keep is going to become a new staple of mine, as it does all the things I used to enjoy on Microsoft Onenote, some of which have gone in newer versions.
