Digital Fluency Intensive- Week 7 (Online)

I enjoyed the session this morning going over Hapara, as I always forget all the different things that can be done on it :) I like the highlights tabs possibilities for seeing how students are going, even though it is important to give them self-efficacy as they work, I find it helpful for getting insight into how they attempt to manage tasks! It was also nice to see it from the Primary perspective and how the folders might look and be used in a different context.

As a Secondary teacher I was not excited for the iPad section and using Explain Everything, as I thought it may not relate. However, it is a tool which I found really interesting and I could see some of my slide lessons working well on the online EE if I decide to mix it up from screencastify. I especially like how I could embed audio, for helping read through texts.

The Digital Dig was something I really enjoyed doing to understand how I can help chromebook users with shortcuts and steps which I do differently on my device. It has given me some ideas for my form class, for sessions on tips and tools that they might use across their classes- such as Blogger, Chromebook, Docs, Slides, Draw... there's so many things I think they just fumble through in our secondary classes. So a digital dig may be in 10Ay's future!

We spent the afternoon looking at the Cybersmart range of courses, and how these might sit within some of our classes. My chosen section was Smart Surfing, to look at finding resources online. Here is my summary connecting Learning Objectives and Content to my curriculum area :)

  1. I too looked at Smart Surfing because I thought it was relevant for my learners new to new devises. I agree the lesson are well set out and are able to be adapted depending on your students learning. I look forward to hearing how the lessons go with your students. I'm really hoping it will improve my students searching:)

    1. Thanks for your comment Kirstin! I also think the lessons can sit in any age group which is awesome. I can imagine these skills being so great with those new to devices.. I often think of my seniors as not being new to them, but I think they're missing this too.
      Happy Searching :)

  2. What an awesome reflection of the day. I enjoyed reading your honesty around the programme Explain Everything. I think that it can be used across all levels - such a cool tool and the online version makes it more accessible too!
I am also really excited to hear you thinking about using the digital dig with your Form Class - that is a wicked idea!
Good job for embedding your Screencastify. Great explanation of Smart Surfing and how it links to your learners. I wonder if some of this could be added to your Form class version of the Digital Dig?
    Awesome stuff.

Yes, it could definitely be used in the form class dig! I am imagining a tip a lesson (since its only 10mins!), once I get organised enough to do it :D
