Kia ora Koutou,
Welcome to my space for sharing the exciting learning, thinking, and work I've been doing. This year I am one of 6 kaiako from across the Manaiakalani network, to be involved in the Manaiakalani Innovative Teachers (MIT) programme. Our goal is to each develop a tool to help support kaiako and/or rangatahi with a specific aspect of education.
We started off this process by developing a Moonshot slide show, with ideas around what we wanted to achieve and how we might do so.
Within this moonshot we had to identify what the challenge is that we are trying to address. My focus is around support for Secondary teachers to incorporate literacy across the curriculum areas.
Following this we did an activity called "The five whys". This was quite a difficult task as the 6 of us had never met each other, and we were asked to question the Challenge each of us had identified with 5 whys? We were each allocated another's moonshot, so we were to answer the 5 whys of our challenge and ask 5 whys of someone else. Each why asked was a follow up from the response to the previous one. This exercise really helped us to think about our challenge and how/why we had identified it as important. It was also very challenging to keep delving deeper with why questions, when naturally after a while a how or what questions seemed more prevalent.
Our next step is to provide more clarity to our challenge, which will happen in person with everyone at our first Hui in Omaha.
