Kia ora koutou,
My name is Jayne, and I am a Science teacher at Te Huruhuru ao o Horomaka, Hornby High School, in Christchurch.
This year as part of the Manaiakalani Innovative Teacher programme, I am working towards developing a resource to support teachers in an area I have identified as a challenge.
My project will focus on the following statement:
"How might we support secondary teachers to incorporate literacy strategies into subject specific contexts".
I have chosen this based on the changes to NCEA, where there is a restructuring of how Literacy is assessed.
For the project we are currently in the prototype development phase, following work in Term 1 around brainstorming and concept mapping. You can see my previous blogs around these topics here: My why and Omaha Hui.
The solution concept that I have been testing is a website. This site will be based upon the "Five big ideas of NCEA Literacy" and the skills required to achieve these big ideas. It will also look at supporting teachers with strategies to develop these skills in their subject areas.
During prototype planning I constructed a set of slides as an example of how my site might look. I then met with a range of teachers from across the school, to get feedback on the layout/design and what aspect would be most useful. You can find my prototype changes here.
I have decided to make the site a single base page, with a continuous connection between the new NCEA standards, to skills and strategies. Below is an example of how it may look.
The next phase for me is to build this prototype into a website.
